The Heart Specialist We All Need

Many Americans take heart medications for everything from high blood pressure to AFib. Many more are being regularly monitored with EKGs and there are now low-cost devices to conduct these basic tests at home. The heart is one of the most vital organs in the human body and while we can function without our appendix, gall bladder, ears, eyes, and thyroids, there is no workaround for the heart.

Most of us know at least one person who has had a heart catheterization or even a valve replacement procedure and it’s truly amazing what can now be accomplished through non-invasive techniques. Since 1967, heart surgeons have even been able to conduct transplants of this incredible organ that beats an average of 100,000 times per day, 36 million times per year, and some 3 billion times during an average lifetime without ever taking a break. Such remarkable dependability, durability, regularity, and longevity are still difficult for human engineers to replicate in any type of machine.

With the importance of keeping our hearts healthy, diets have changed over the years to reduce fat, cholesterol, and sodium, and increase intake of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Once heart disease has begun, it can be challenging to manage so prevention is key and we are all wise to take steps to protect the pumping mechanism in our holy temples.

The Bible speaks often about the human heart but from a different perspective. While physicians concentrate on the physical aspects, God is more concerned about the spiritual condition of our hearts. In Scripture, the heart is a term used to describe the very core of who we are. It is the spiritual decision maker for a human being and is sometimes viewed as moderating between the heady intellect and the emotional gut to achieve a balanced rational judgment in choices and responses.

While we may visit a cardiologist to assess the condition of our physical hearts, God speaks through the prophet in Jeremiah 17:9 to say, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Jesus echoed this diagnosis in Matthew 15:19 where He tells us, “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.” Who among us hasn’t had such evil thoughts, desires, and actions spring from our own hearts? Depraved Heart Disease entered the human gene pool when Adam and Eve sinned and has been inherited by every one of their descendants ever since, except for Jesus.

Thankfully, God is able to heal our hearts in ways that our physicians cannot. In the verse right after Jeremiah 17:9 above, God declares, “I the Lord search the heart,” and in 1 Samuel 16:7, He says, “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” In Psalm 7:9, David declares, “O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure.” God is able to conduct a full assessment of our spiritual condition and prescribe steps for cure that will help us pass life’s many stress tests.

Jesus specializes in broken, wicked, and cold hearts. Because of His death and resurrection, He has the power and ability to perform heart transplants and does so for everyone who comes to Him in faith believing. We are told in Ezekiel 36:26, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” This is the type of heart transplant all humans desperately need.

If you find yourself suffering from Depraved Heart Disease, seek healing from Jesus for He’s the only one with the cure. He will remove our cold hard hearts of stone and install ones that are warm, soft and loving. Invite the Heavenly Heart Specialist into your life today! Blessings, George
